KENNESAW—Members of the Georgia Peach Book Award for Teen Readers announced the Winner and Honor Book recipients during a luncheon presentation at the Kennesaw State University Conference on Literature for Children and Young Adults Wednesday afternoon. The Georgia Peach Book Award works to promote reading and literacy skills in teens. Each year, a committee of school and public librarians reads widely to choose a list of 20 nominated titles. Then young adults choose books from among that list to read and rate. The books that earn the highest number of readers and ratings become the Peach Award Winner and Honor Books. This year’s winner of the Georgia Peach Book Award for Teen Readers is The Fault in Our Stars by John Green (soon to be released as a feature film).  The two honor books are I Hunt Killers by Barry Lyga and Grave Mercy by Robin LaFevers

The purpose of the Georgia Peach Book Award for Teen Readers is to highlight and promote the best current young adult literature for Georgia high school age students, to encourage teens to read, and to promote the development of cooperative school and public library services for young adults. Teens vote for their favorite books out of the year’s top 20 nominees either online, at their high schools, or at their local public libraries.

The goals include encouraging teens in grades 9-12 to recognize and read quality literature appropriate to their needs, interests, and reading levels; honoring outstanding works in young adult literature; recognizing authors in the field of young adult literature; and developing cooperative school and public library services to teens.

FINAL DAY TO VOTE FOR THE GEORGIA PEACH BOOK AWARD!!!

Please remember that today is the last day to vote for the Georgia Peach Book Award for Teen Readers.  Voting is done online only at http://www.georgiapeachaward.org/teens-vote-your-favorite-peach-book-voting-ends-midnight-friday-march-15

The voting page will shut down at midnight tonight, so be sure to encourage all of your readers to go online.  The winner and two honor books will be revealed at the Kennesaw State University Literature Conference Thursday, March 21st.

Reminder–GA Peach Book Award voting ends tomorrow at midnight

Just a reminder to encourage your students to vote for their favorite Georgia Peach Book Award for Teen Readers books by midnight tomorrow (March 15th).  If you collected paper ballots, be sure to enter those by the 3/15 midnight deadline as well.  Only votes submitted online will count.  Thanks for your participation.  The winner and honor books will be announced at the Kennesaw State University Conference on March 28th.  I will also post the winners here.
