Country Resources in GALILEO

Need resources to keep up with what’s going on around the world? Need facts and statistics about countries for your students? GALILEO can help!

Encyclopædia Britannica offers great articles about each country. In fact, they have been updating articles frequently to keep up with current events. So, in addition to providing historical information, the articles for each country can be a good source for helping students understand what’s happening around the globe. Also, the high school and academic editions of Encyclopædia Britannica include a series of Year in Review articles so that students can read about the events of each year leading up to the present. Just search for the country by name in Encyclopædia Britannica High School or Encyclopædia Britannica Online (Academic Edition) to see these articles.

World Data Analyst from Encyclopædia Britannica includes current and historical statistics for many countries of the world. The Country Snapshots feature provides a handout with statistics. Country Comparisons allows students to choose several countries and compare current or historical statistics. Ranked statistics will provide a list of the countries with the highest and lowest of a particular statistic, which is a great way to see, for example, the countries that are top 10 for health services or the bottom 10 for transportation.

Book Collection: Nonfiction offers book chapters providing information on the people, culture, geography, environment, economy, and government of countries around the world.

Finally, students can find articles and other information on many countries in History Reference Center or in Student Research Center (middle and high) or Kids Search (elementary).

Find these resources and more in the Countries section in GALILEO Teen or GALILEO High School.
