Dear Library Media Specialists,
GaDOE staff members recently received an email from our Director asking us to help Clarkdale Elementary (Cobb County) which was flooded during the recent storms in the Atlanta metro area.
Because everything in the building was destroyed, members of the GaDOE Curriculum Team have been asked to create curriculum centered bulletin boards (based on the GPS) for the classroom teachers (K-5 and specials).
So, what do you think if Georgia Library Media Specialists dazzle everyone by coming together to help this wonderful school?
If you could create a GPS centered bulletin board (minus the paper that covers the board), please put the bulletin board pieces in a large, manila envelope, label the envelope with a grade level, subject area, and your name and school/system and send them to me. Maybe there is already a wonderful bulletin board in your school that you could replicate for Clarkdale. All of the bulletin board materials should be new.
I will collect all of your gifts and present them to my Deputy Superintendent who will pass them on to Clarkdale faculty.
You are creative, caring, and capable people and this will only prove what I already know about you.
Middle and High School Media Specialists, you can help too. Take a look at the GSO website for the elementary Georgia Performance Standards, use your creativity and talents.
This idea may help you as you plan your bulletin board gift:
The K-8 core subject standards are now available on the GeorgiaStandards.Org (GSO) website in print ready format for posting https://www.georgiastandards.org/standards/Pages/BrowseStandards/GPS_by_Grade_Level_K-8.aspx.
They may be found under the Georgia Performance Standards tab in the Support Materials – GPS by Grade Level, K-8 section (click here). Teachers are able to print these in varied sizes – regular, legal, or 11×17.
Remember, while we love the Library Media Program, our main focus in this project is the classroom teacher. And because we always collaborate with the classroom teacher with their units of study, this will only remind people that Library Media Specialists are educators who teach every subject and every student.
Send your gifts to the address below.
Thanks in advance.
