Georgia Conference on Children’s Literature

The 42nd Annual Conference on Children’s Literature will be held in Athens, Georgia at the Georgia Center for Continuing Education on March 4th and 5th.  This conference features award-winning authors speaking about their writing as well as concurrent sessions on incorporating children’s literature into a variety of lessons and projects in your classrooms and media centers.  I’ve always found the author sessions to be quite inspiring for lessons on writing with students.  It brings a new perspective to your lessons when you can quote what an author said about his or her craft.  This year guest authors include Alma Flor Ada, Gail Gibbons, M.T. Anderson, Mary Downing Hahn, and Karen Beaumont.  There will be opportunities to meet the authors and get books signed for your libraries and your own personal collection.  Early bird registration has been extended through February 18th.

The prices are as follows:

▪                Early fee paid on or before 2/18/11 – $125

▪                Fee paid after 2/18/11 – $145

▪                Full-time UGA student* with no meals – $45

▪                Full-time UGA student* with meals – $80

▪                Full-time non-UGA student* with no meals – $55

▪                Full-time non-UGA student* with meals – $95

More information about the conference can be found on the conference website and registration can be done in a variety of ways through the Georgia Center website.  The full schedule will be posted very soon with a list of all of the concurrent sessions.

Also, don’t forget that on March 3, the David C. Barrow Elementary Media Center will hold an open house in honor of its distinction as the 2010 exemplary elementary media program.  Come early to the Children’s Literature Conference and visit Barrow Elementary.  It’s just one block away from the Georgia Center for Continuing Education.

  1. I have still not been able to find the full conference agenda. Do you know if it has been posted yet? I really want to start planning on which sessions to attend.

    • I emailed them and was told that they don’t post the full conference agenda, which is the opposite of what they’ve done in the past. I think it’s a shame that people who have registered don’t have access to the full conference program. Since I’m a presenter, I have the program, so I’ll send you a copy! :-)
