** GLMA Legislative Update **
The Senate Education Committee passed the following legislation today:
HB 243 - Grandfathers in NBC teachers who are currently receiving the salary increase and those in the pipeline as of 3/1/09; salary increase will be subject to appropriations.
HB 455 - Extends the contract deadline from April 15 to May 15, for the 09-10 school year only.
HB 280 - Provides accelerated steps in the state salary schedule for PSC certified math and science teachers and a $1,000.00 stipend for kindergarten or elementary school teachers who receive PSC endorsements for math or science.
We hear the earliest these bills could be voted on by the full Senate will be Monday, March 30.
The House Education Academic Support Subcommittee and full Committee will meet tomorrow, while the Senate Education Committee plans to meet again on Wednesday.
HB 278 Update
According to Chairman Dan Weber, HB 278 - expenditure control waivers for 2008-2009 and 2009-2010 school years – will be on the Senate Education Committee agenda this Wednesday at 1:00 p.m. Let us know if you can attend this hearing with us.
