Legislative Day Registration Form
On Thursday, February 26, 2009, the Georgia Library Media Association (GLMA) will be sending members to the twin towers of the Capitol to advocate on behalf of all school libraries in Georgia.
We want to be sure that our legislators have a thorough understanding of the role of the school library media specialist and the contribution to student academic achievement that a good media program provides.
We must ensure that in the future, Georgia students have access to school libraries by assuring sustained staffing and funding. Millions of students utilize their school libraries each year, but without adequate support, these resources may not be there when they need them. Everyone loves libraries. But libraries cannot live on love alone.
School libraries receive a very small portion of the allocated general funds for education. With the current price of books and online databases our per student budget amounts are grossly inadequate.
I want to encourage all of you to consider taking professional leave to attend this exciting and very worthwhile event. Plan ahead to attend for Georgia Library Legislative Day at the Capitol on Thursday, February 26.
Stay tuned to the GLMA blog and the Georgia Library Listserv for more details.
